Fifty Shades of Grey? More like Fifty Shades of crap

Before I begin the review of Fifty Shades of Grey I’ll throw out some figures for you. Fifty Shades of Grey, the book by EL James was bought by over a 100 million people. Since the film’s release, it has broken big Box office records and made approximately $486,655,875 (that’s around $487 million). So basically in a short span of 17 days, Fifty Shades has created quite a storm. And these figures make me sad. Mainly because I watched the film and much to my non-surprise I found out that it is as ridiculous as a fictional movie can get, and when I say fictional I mean cowboys and aliens’ fiction! I would gladly watch KRK’s Deshdrohi over this and find more meaning in it’s plot! The Plot The plot of the film is pretty simple. There is a horny English Major Anastasia Steele (played tolerably by Dakota Johnson) who is super attracted to this rich billionaire named Christian Grey (played annoyingly by Jamie Dornan) and she voluntarily gets into an contract-based agreement (Grey takes his kink very seriously) with him because oh, yes, you guessed it, he is kind of hot and her only shot at having a boyfriend. Thus, begins the excruciatingly painful journey to the “red room” where she gets flogged, tied up and REALLY hurt, just because she wants some action in her life and doesn’t know of conventional methods to get it. NO love in the ‘Love-story’ Now before you dismiss me as some prude without an open-mind, let me tell you that I am cool with BDSM. But that becomes the sole reason for Christian and Anastasia to start a warped relationship and I don’t get that, at all! To be fair to Anna, she is falling for creepy Grey despite all the hitting and hurting (Stockholm Syndrome, I guess) but the tool-bag that he is, Grey just wants her to be his sex slave. As a “reward” for her services Mr Grey even promises to act like a normal person on certain weekdays, AWW so sweet *retches* It is revealed during the course of the film that Christian was introduced to the dominant-submissive style of sex-having by his mother’s friend when he was, wait for it, 15. Isn’t that like child abuse or something? Anyway, he doesn’t have a frame of reference on how to have sex like a regular person and Anna is the perfect person to come aboard on this twisted contractual agreement of dominant and submissive because she is a virgin and has no frame of reference at all. How convenient! Dumb vs Douchebag As their “relationship” progresses (I found Haider’s relationship with Ghazala to be more normal than their’s) Anna falls hard for Christian and wants him to be her bf forever. But Christian’s douchebaggery comes in the way because he doesn’t do romance. So Anna asks to be punished by Christian as she thinks that is the only way she can understand why Christian is like this (at this point picture my brain being licked off a wall by a cat) He whacks her black and blue with a solid leather belt and she regrets having asked for the punishment, duh! And quite illogically after having been his sex pet for the entire film, in the end she tells Christian to “Stay!” (like how you would tell a dog to stay in one place, that.) The film ends abruptly leaving me with a sinking reminder that the book it was adapted from was part of a trilogy! The not-so-sexy Christian Grey Let’s talk about the lead actors Jamie and Dakota for a sec. While I liked Dakota’s commitment to the role of a hormonal weirdo, I was plain irritated by Jamie’s presence in the film. Why would you cast this guy? He is not attractive, he has an odd body (notice his abs on his chest), he has a speech impediment and he looks totally harmless! There is zero intensity in his eyes. I think he regretted taking up the part while shooting for the film. There was nothing ‘intimidating” (as Anna keeps saying) or sexy about this Christian. To me he was just a freak who grossed me out every time he had a scene! If I were Dakota, I would only have been worried about Jamie spitting on my face during all his lines because it looks like he has some weird spit buildup in his mouth every time he is about to speak! The sexually starved Anastasia Steel Having made my feelings about Christian and Jamie crystal clear I’d want to talk about Anastasia’s character. Now I am an English major myself. I am also about the same age as she is. But I would NEVER go for an offer to be some rich guy’s sex slave just because he “noticed” me. Did Literature teach you nothing, Anna? Women fought relentlessly to be treated as human beings and with your sex drive you just set the clock back by 100 years! Is having a boyfriend, no matter what it entails, the be all and end all of your life? Aren’t you educated enough to realise that he has made you sign a contract to be his bitch? My biggest problem with Fifty Shades is it’s portrayal of BDSM. Being kinky can be a part of your sexual tastes, it definitely should not be the sole purpose of your existence. The message this film sends out is that horny women who want a boyfriend will be up for anything. It’s portrayal of Anna reduces women to an unthinking, irrational and sexually-starved gender! And I, being a woman, am offended by that representation. Had I been Anastasia I would either have thrown garbage at Christian and reported him to the police or would have sought medical/psychological help for him! And it is sad that there are millions of women out there who don’t feel the same way as I do.

Sonam Kapoor, who was in Gondal, Gujarat for the shoot of her upcoming film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo opposite
Salman Khan, is felled with swine flu. After having complained of sore
throat and fever, the actress was immediately admitted to the Sterling
hospital in Rajkot Saturday morning for further testing.

A while ago, Uthtvforum had contacted Sonam’s spokesperson, who
informed that the tests for swine flu were being conducted but that it
was too early to say anything. It has now been confirmed that the blood
samples tested positive for the flu.

Rajkot district collector Manisha Chandra said, “Sonam Kapoor
tested positive for swine flu today and she is being treated at
Sterling hospital in the city.” He also informed that she could have
caught the virus from her physical trainer who was infected by the
virus.

Reportedly, Sonam who reached Rajkot on Wednesday was already
suffering from the infection and only got sicker by the day. Sonam,
infact, wanted to return to Mumbai two days ago to get herself treated
of the fever from her family doctor. By Friday night, however, Sonam
went through a severe spell of coughing and fever, following which she
was rushed to the hospital Saturday morning.

Ab Tak Chappan has become a cult classic. The 2004 cop action drama film is etched deep in the minds of people across the world, mainly because of Nana Patekar’s superb portrayal of Sadhu Agashe—a character based on the real life of Mumbai sub-inspector Daya Nayak. So when in 2012, I saw the first trailer of the sequel, Ab Tak Chappan 2, as a fan I was very excited to see the film. However, the film kept getting delayed and it finally got a release date, three years later. Still, being a Nana Patekar fan, I wanted to watch this film throughout till the end and here’s what I felt about the film… What it’s about The film picks up from where the first installment ends. But Sadhu isn’t in the police department anymore. He now lives in a secluded village in Goa with his son. Mumbai is under terrorist threat and the CM asks Sadhu to be back in office. After a lot of coaxing, he finally agrees when his son asks him to join back. He is back in form in no time and starts working in his usual way by killing gangsters after getting information from  informers. However, pretty soon, his son is killed by the mafia, just like his wife was. Post that begins Sadhu’s saga of revenge and how he tries to clean up the system by staying inside the police department.

On February 27, Sivakarthikeyan’s
Kakki Sattai is all set to release and expectations are indeed high.
This is the actor’s first Tamil release in 2015 and it will set the ball
rolling for the rest of his films this year. Produced by Dhanush’s
Wunderbar Productions, the movie directed by R Mathimaran is said to be
good as it has music by Anirudh as well.

An industry source says, “Sivakarthikeyan had a pretty good 2013 but
only one release in 2014 – Maan Karate. This film will determine how
much he’s a crowd-puller and if he can retain his market in Tamil
cinema.” The actor has a lot of fans across Singapore and Malaysia.
Though Sivakarthikeyan is considered a bankable actor by producers, how
Kakki Sattai does at the box office is important for future films. Kakki
Sattai was supposed to release in 2014 but for some reason got pushed
to 2015. The only other film he has for release this year is Rajini
Murugan.

Back in 2006, Jayam Ravi and Trisha were paired together for the
first time in a hit film Something Something. Back then, the duo was
considered to be a hot onscreen pair. But, who would have thought that
it would take nearly 9 years for the two actors to share screen space
again. In 2015, Trisha and Jayam Ravi will star together not once but
twice in Bhoologam and Appatakkar.
Appatakkar has been in news for a while thanks to altercations with Kajal Aggarwal,
who was first being considered for the lead role. The first look of
director Suraaj’s Appatakkar is out and this is what I thought of it:

Jayam Ravi
clad in white shirt and white dhoti, donning a thin moustache seems to
be playing a role of rustic villager. In the poster, we see Ravi
carrying Trisha over her shoulder, adding an edgy, quirky factor to the
poster. Trisha looks red hot, clad in a sexy red dress. In another
poster, we see Jayam Ravi in a colourful lungi clad avatar, carelessly
whistling away. Both the posters have one thing in common – rich strokes
of colours and eye catchy costumes makes Appatakkar posters stand out.

 That Aamir Khan
is doing Nitesh Tiwari’s next directorial venture Dangal is known to
all. The versatile actor will play a wrestler in the film which is
reportedly based on the life Mahavir Phogat. That’s not all! The
superstar will be seen going through three different stages. Aamir will
 be seen as a 19-year-old then a 29-year-old and lastly a 55-year-old.
It was also being said that Khan will play a father to two daughters in
Tiwari’s film. But as per the latest gossip, Mr Perfectionist will be
seen playing a daddy to four daughters in Dangal. Now that’s interesting news, hai na?

While talking to a leading tabloid, a source said, “No actress has
been finalised as of now, but we are looking for girls who can look as
young as 14 to 18 years. Though a lot of names have come up in the
discussions, the casting is yet to be locked.”

“Aamir
has four different looks throughout the film and one of them will be of
a 55-year-old father. However, he is not involved in the casting
process. Casting director Mukesh Chabbra will soon hold auditions in
small towns to cast the girls. We are not looking for actors, but
performers who can pull off a rustic look,” added the source.
